WaSH Officer

The Ok Tedi Development Foundation (OTDF) is the legal entity that manages community development benefits from Ok Tedi Mine operations on behalf of the people of the 158 Community Mine Continuation Agreement (CMCA) villages. OTDF is a safe, professional and innovative organisation that delivers projects to communities through a unique partnership between mining, the people and the government. OTDF is mandated to ensure wise and sustainable use of the wealth created from mining operations for the betterment of future generations of Western Province.

OTDF has one (1) current vacancy and seeks to engage dynamic, competent and qualified persons to be part of the team that is delivering development outcomes for the communities of Western Province.   • WaSH Officer: This position is responsible for contributing to health improvement through improved access to sustainable WaSH services to host communities in the 158 CMCA communities. The incumbent will report to the WaSH Team Leader to implement the OTDF WaSH program.

Brief tasks will include:

  • conducting assessments, installation/construction/rehabilitation of WaSH facilities,
  • monitoring, evaluation and capacity building of community WaSH structures.
  • Setting procedures and guidelines for all WaSH projects that are established and implemented accordingly with equal participation by all target groups in the respective CMCA communities.
  • Ensure that all WaSH related data (e.g. baseline assessments, activity monitoring) is well managed and provides an accurate representation of the reality on the ground.
  • Help plan activities with the community to reduce WaSH related risks
  • Able to conduct WASH related training

  • Qualification, Skills and Experience:
  • University diploma or degree in environmental health, water/sanitation engineering or relevant technical background
  • Excellent understanding of management challenges presented in the WaSH field and the dynamics of humanitarian issues
  • More than 2 years of relevant experience in WaSH, prior experience in implementing WaSH programs in Western Province

will be an advantage.

  • Must be good in proposal development, submissions, budgeting, planning & implementation including monitoring and

evaluation.

  • Can work under minimum supervision, lead others to deliver sectional key performance indicators
  • Is able to work under pressure and deliver on time
  • Someone who is community oriented and has the passion to serve rural communities
  • Teamwork and collaboration to achieve sectional and organizational goals
  • Strong analytical skills – data collation, cleansing and reporting
  • Strong communication skills – verbal, writing and presentation
