Key Responsibilities:

The Treatment Support Supervisor (TSS) plays a vital role in supporting community TB prevention and treatment programs by supervising and working closely with TB Community Treatment Supporters (CTS) at Basic Management Units (BMUs). TSS provide training, monitoring, and support to CTS while assisting with MDR-TB program implementation and integrated health promotion initiatives with a focus on TB. They contribute to improving key TB program indicators, including reducing the rate of lost-to-follow-up cases, increasing access to TB preventive treatment, and improving treatment completion and outcomes. These goals are achieved through social mobilization, community engagement, managing CTS, and promoting positive behavior change communication. The selection of TSS' will be conducted by the respective PHAs in coordination with World Vision.

Roles & Responsibilities:

ACSM (Advocacy Communication Social mobilization) for TB

  • Communicates and coordinates with local government and health partners to reach goals and objectives of the project
  • Maps out target areas with BMUs and location of CTS.
  • Assists TB Coordinator/ PSO so that TB program activities are carried out as per implementation plan
  • Coordinates with the district health services and health facility clinicians to identify hotspots for health promotion.
  • Conducts TB awareness activities in communities especially ‘hotspots’ with resources from district/ provinces.
  • Participates in regular project review meetings/ review visits, with key provincial/district and local health partners and stakeholders at various levels
  • Develops and submit reports as required by the project and the TB program
  • Identifies existing community groups to engage in TB advocacy
  • Works with PDCO/ TB Coordinator and PSO to train Community groups in TB advocacy
  • Supports community groups in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of organizational strengthening and TB service delivery enhancement activities

Supervision and management of Community Treatment Supporters

  • Provides basic TB training to CTS
  • Explains the roles and responsibilities of CTS
  • Supervises CTS through effective supervision and guidance to perform their duties and help Helps identify potential issues early
  • Ensures CTS needs are met to effectively and efficiently perform duties and responsibilities
  • Supervises the availability of DOTS
  • Ensures CTS contribution is clear so they are viewed as essential members of the team/program
  • Reviews the reports submitted by CTS and ensure timely payment is made for them as per project guidelines.
  • Helps CTS improve their performance
  • Ensures all CTS are sensitized on anti-fraud measures and also safeguarding, prevention of sexual exploitation and harassment.
  • Works with PHA and local experts to understand barriers for timely access to services and completion of treatment
  • Supports CTS in positive behavior change approaches for patients with TB so that they complete their treatment successfully.
  • Supports CTS to carry out infection prevention measures.

Educational Qualification/Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Qualified nurse or allied health professional – Registered as per PNG requirements for Community health workers.
  • At least 3 years of work experience in the field preferred.
  • Experience of working in TB program is mandatory.
  • Good communication - verbal and written
  • Should know how to use computer, send and receive official emails, use of MS office basics and use internet for official purposes.
  • Local hires preferred (from the same province)
  • Should have a functional basic smart phone to communicate – with functions of SMS, WhatsApp, Phone calls at least.

Working Environment / Conditions

  • The candidate will work primarily in the field, comprising 80% of their duties, and will be required to undertake domestic travel within the province as needed.
