About Lihir

Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Purpose

To operate processing plant equipment safely including lime slaking, reagent mixing, mill relining & housekeeping equipment that support the Processing department to achieve production target as directed by the Supervisor.

Essential Duties

• Ensure personal and team compliance with all company HSE requirement and policies including Fitness for work.
• Complete any HSE tasks only if the hazards and any potential consequences are understood and any corrections are firstly agreed by the relevant Supervisor.
• Carry out daily housekeeping tasks, Mill Relining tasks and general work as directed by immediate Supervisor in the process area of Crushing, Grinding, Pressure Oxidation, CIL, and Tailing and ensure that all safe working procedures are observed.
• Ensure all work for the shift (inspections, identifying defects, systems verifications, routine schedules, SOP's etc) are completed within all safety, environmental and company compliance processes and guidelines.
• Operate process plant equipment as directed completing Daily Plans and Work Inspections advising immediate Supervisor of the need for Work Notification for any defects or hazards found in the area.
• As directed, undertakes regular inspections of all plant areas of responsibilities,
• Participates in skills training, shift handover communications, toolbox meetings and any other activities as required by the Supervisor.

Training & Experience

• Certificate 3 in Resource Processing essential
• 3 - 5 years relevant work experience essential in heavy industry preferably within a mining environment, either through experience in a similar operation or through progression as a Newmont Trainee Operator.
• PNG Driver's Licence - Class 6 essential.
• Working at Heights Certification essential.
• Confined Space Entry Certification essential.
• Fork-Lift operation Certification desirable.
• Bobcat operation Certificate desirable.
• OHC operation Certification desirable.
• Confined Space Controller Certification desirable.
• Oxy cutting Certificate desirable.
• Dogging Certification desirable.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Self - motivated with the ability to work autonomously from time to time.
• High attention to detail with good time management skills.
• Strong active listening & interpersonal skills.
