About Lihir

Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. DIMENSIONS:

The Director Global Exploration Portfolio Management is part of Exploration’s Leadership Team and has major impact to Newmont’s long-term business.This role is responsible for exploration global portfolio planning with assets ranging from new discoveries through resource and reserve replacement. The role leads three critical functions in Exploration: Portfolio Management, Planning and Reporting, and Commercial Business Development.

PURPOSE & KEY RESULTS

  • Responsible for monitoring and controlling the operations of a Processing Plant.
  • Controller – Processing duties may include operating control systems, monitoring equipment performance, identifying and reporting safety hazards, identifying area constraints and ensuring that production targets are met.
  • They work closely with other members of the processing team, including technicians, supervisors and other to ensure that the plant is operating safely and efficiently.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Safety & Sustainability

  • Ensures personal and team compliance with all company HSE requirements & policies including Fitness for Work.
  • Completes any HSE tasks only if the hazards and any potential consequences are understood and any corrections are firstly agreed by the relevant Supervisor.
  • Work in accordance with PNG Mine Safety Act, Newmont Safety System, Safety Policies and Procedures and Newcrest Environment policies and all departmental operating procedures.
  • Display behaviour consistent with Newmont Values.

Operational Excellence

  • Ensures the Process Plant control centres are fully functional and delivering to plan including HGO1&2; FGO; Oxygen Plant, Autoclaves; and NCA1&2 and electrowinning cells.
  • Routine inspection on critical parameters of plant area of responsibility.
  • Operate critical control loops in designed mode
  • Identify any DCS issues/optimisation opportunities & facilitate the changes with the help of the DCS engineering team
  • Coordinates with Process Technicians for proper adjustment required in troubleshooting, start up and shutdown activities.

People

  • Works constructively within a diverse group of people
  • Delivers consistently on commitments and takes accountability for own development.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

Experience:

  • 3 – 5 years relevant work experience essential.
  • Minimum level of Grade 12 education certificate essential.
  • Experience with modern maintenance techniques and computerised maintenance systems including Foxboro control systems or other DCS essential.

Knowledge:

  • Proficient in English with excellent verbal, written communication and public speaking skills.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Sound planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training

Skills & Abilities:

  • Visible leadership in safety, health and S&ER.
  • Demonstrates personal responsibility for own health and safety and develops an understanding of the legal requirements, HSE standards and standard operating procedures relevant to direct work area.
  • Recognises problems and proactively works towards resolution under the guidance of immediate Supervisor.
  • Skills in PPMS, DCS, Visualisation, Shift logs and Pi trending data.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The position is in Lihir, PNG.
  • This role is offered on a 28:14 Fly in, Fly out (FIFO)
