About the role

Reporting to the Chief Surveyor, the Surveyor, Senior – Survey Underground is responsible for the immediate supervision of the Underground Mine Survey section for the delivery of all survey requirements to the Underground mine, SML area and associated areas, by the application and monitoring of Underground mine surveying systems.

About you

The ideal candidate must have:

• Tertiary Qualification in Surveying
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in Underground Mine Surveying
• Demonstrated well-developed communication, leadership and technical skills within a multi-disciplined mine team in a medium to large Mining Operation as well as Civil or Community Projects setting
• Demonstrate the training skills required to develop junior Underground Mine Surveyors
• Ability to use state of the art surveying equipment including Leica TS15, Leica TS16, MS60, Geosight CMS, Emesent UG Drone systems.
• Ability to use CAD Surveying programs such as Deswik for Underground survey data processing and modelling of 3D Mine models.
• Demonstrated understanding of Underground surveying techniques such as the use of Resection, Traversing, and Adjustment of survey controls for underground mining.
• Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas
• High level understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry in PNG

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor Underground mine surveying systems and performance measures and suggest alternatives and improvements to systems and methods
• Manage and maintain of Underground survey stations and station database in the Underground mine for control of drilling, development, services and production activities
• Ensure accurate mapping of all Underground mining areas, and all corresponding surface infrastructure
• Work with other seniors, surveyors and contractors to complete projects works on sites or outside of the SML
• QAQC of Underground development as-built vs mine designs
• Scanning of Open stope working areas
• Maintaining and updating of Underground mine void model accurately and in a timely manner
• Compiling and reporting End of Month survey results of all underground mining development areas, and other requirements within required timeframes and to required accuracy
• Compiling of yearly mine plans as per PNG Mining (Survey) Act 1977 (Sect 35-39)
• Promote a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and compliance with the NPL Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Policy.
• Planning and undertaking underground development heading set out and face markups, laser installations, void pickups, subsistence/deformation monitoring, computation, processing, and reporting

Mobilization Requirement

This is a PNG National staff position, a site-based role on a Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) arrangement with rotation of 21 days on Site and 14 days off Site. Must successfully pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening. (This will be arranged only for successful candidates who progress after the interview stage) and have an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
