Simberi Gold Company Limited forms part of the St Barbara Group. Our Simberi Operations consists of an open cut mine on the northernmost island in the Tabar group of islands in the province of New Ireland in Papua New Guinea. We are currently seeking a Superintendent Security to join our team on a permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the Manager Health Safety & Security.

The Superintendent Security is primarily responsible to lead and manage various aspects of the Security department which include amongst others, the security and surveillance process, security training, enforce related policies and to provide expertise and advice on all security, surveillance, and enforcement related issues.

The opportunity

Technical accountabilities

  • Manage and coordinate surveillance and investigation into security risk and issues impacting product and production.
  • Make appropriate decisions in line with best work practices in product, surveillance, and security processes.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and relevant industry standards of practice.
  • Ensure continuous evaluation of the HSE and Security aspects of equipment and services.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of HSE and Security management practices.
  • Delivers work within approved budget managing any variances in accordance with escalation process.
  • Actively seeks and participates in cost reduction opportunities.

Scheduling accountabilities

  • Demonstrated supervisory/leadership capacity and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Ensures all personnel, visitors and contractors comply with site and contractual HSE and Security requirements.
  • Plans work so that it can be conducted safely; and considers environmental conditions, nearby activities, and the people and other resources needed to complete the work.
  • Drives and influences proactive safety behaviours within the team and others in engagement.

People accountabilities

  • Identify training requirements of subordinates through consultation with the employees and the Simberi Gold Company Training Department.
  • Using established training methods and in conjunction with the Training Department train subordinates to achieve competency in the area identified and within the scope of their position.
  • Participate in training provided by the business
  • Develops team members through regular feedback, coaching and formal training.

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • Experience in a Disciplined Force, Military or Police or equivalent
  • Experience with firearms
  • Relevant work experience in a leading Security role in a large-scale mining operation
  • Proficient in English with excellent verbal, written communication, and public speaking skills
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Sound planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training
  • Competent in Driving with a Current PNG Drivers License
