Lihir Operation is a tier-one open cut mining operation based on Aniolam island, in the Lihir Group of Islands, located in New Ireland Province approximately 800km north of Port Moresby. It is one of the world’s largest producing gold mines and is located on a geothermally active extinct volcanic crater. Production first commenced in 1997. The operation consists of an open pit mine producing refractory ore, which is treated using pressure oxidation before the gold is recovered by a conventional leach process.

About this Role

Reporting to the Manager - Operations this role is designed to Control the production of the three-operating installed plants to constantly meets the needs of downstream customers.

As an expatriate, you will play a critical role in the ongoing development of the team, in support of Newmont’s commitment to developing our national and local workforce.

This role will be working a 22:20 roster and is offered on a 2-year Fixed Term-Full time basis.

Your role will consist of:

• Accountable for the operation and maintenance of the Oxygen Facility
• Drive the development and progression of the workforce assigned to the Oxygen Plant
• Develop and maintain the Budget required to run the Oxygen Facility
• Identify, manage and control risks present, apparent and emerging within the Oxygen Plant operations
• Development of the Capital budget required to sustain and develop the Oxygen Facility
• Control of the key processing and operational risk associated with the large industrial Oxygen Facility
• Development and Diligence of the proficient management of the yearly operational budgets and cost management
• Set standards and maintain leadership through leadership accountability and conduct regular visible felt safety interactions
• Escalate and complete Incident Investigations and actions in a thorough and timely manner to minimize risk of recurrence
• Manage sectional risk programs and implementation of actions to ensure residual risks are maintained
• Lead environmental compliance with the Process Services facilities, including investigation of breaches

Your training, skills and experience checklist

Here is what we would need so see from you!

• Extensive experience working in an Oxygen Facility or relevant Gas industry experience at the leadership level
• Previous experience working in Supervisory roles is essential
• Experience in planning and development of shutdowns and outages
• Proven experience in Operations and Application of Maintenance systems
• Strong knowledge in the Oxygen industry, Gas industry and Process Plant is essential
• Knowledge of Oxygen plant Operation and general flow sheet configurations and performance management
• Experience with SAP or other CMMS systems and advanced proficiency with Microsoft office suite
• Ability to interpret Engineering drawings, OEM manuals, and standard
• Trade qualification in a Mechanical trade including Mechanical Fitter and Turner, Machinist, aircraft mechanic or large compressor technician
• Relevant Tertiary and/or Post Tertiary qualifications in asset or maintenance management is highly regarded
• Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building and training
• High attention to detail with good time management skills
• Strong business acumen to optimise and manage budgets
• Be able to work a FIFO roster in PNG
• Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment
• Must be able to complete a National Police Check & Navex Risk Rate Screening
• Ability to satisfy all requirements for PNG Work Permit and Visa

Working conditions and location

This role is offered on a 22:20 Fly in, Fly out (FIFO) roster from Australia to Lihir Island.
