Lihir Operation is a tier-one open cut mining operation based on Aniolam island, in the Lihir Group of Islands, located in New Ireland Province approximately 800km north of Port Moresby. It is one of the world’s largest producing gold mines and is located on a geothermally active extinct volcanic crater. Production first commenced in 1997. The operation consists of an open pit mine producing refractory ore, which is treated using pressure oxidation before the gold is recovered by a conventional leach process.

Our Brisbane office provides a range of project, engineering, finance, commercial and other functions to support Lihir Operation and the PNG regional unit.

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Specialist to formulate, facilitate, and support the development and installation of culture principles associated risk and compliance work, initiatives and programs related to Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (IDE) and Respect at Work (R@W) into operational and people management processes, practices and systems.

As part of our team you will:

  • Build and improve the IDE Learning Library.
  • Support the development of IDE/R@W principles, creative and impactful learning pathways, frameworks and standardized practices, elevating opportunities to improve, informed by key business stimulus.
  • Build and improve the IDE/ R@W functional discipline toolkits, inclusive of market trends, functional innovation, technology/AI subject matter knowledge (enhancements or effects of).
  • Design IDE/ R@W marketing package anchored in storytelling, inclusive of any/all required data/reporting requirements, and monitor its impact, modernizing to make improvements and compel action.
  • Coordinate and support the integration of IDE/ R@W initiatives and principles into existing systems and processes in close partnership with cross functional and operational teams.
  • Support leadership and the Business Resource Group IDE capability through building/education via external leading class methods and resources.
  • Design and build capability assessment measurements and coordinate their infusion into performance management, recognition, learning/development vehicles.
  • Support build of IDE research capability about external trends in IDE/ R@W, perform external benchmarking, assess, and recommend improvements for IDE/ R@W practitioners.
  • Develop and support IDE communication and branding to drive and sustain awareness, scope and identify external partnerships that promote Respectful and Inclusive behaviours within and outside the business.
  • Support cycle of IDE/ R@W enterprise compliance and reporting, disclosures.
  • Support recognition programs for key IDE contributions, coordinate infusion into performance assessment modules.

Your training, skills and experience checklist

You will be a dynamic, driven and qualified Specialist and here is what we would need so see from you!

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Organizational Psychology/Behavioral Sciences, Human Resources/Talent Development, Sociology/Anthropology/Cultural Studies, Law/Compliance or related fields.
  • Significant experience in the design, development and facilitation of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity and Respect at Work programs.
  • Experience in building, designing and implementing toolkits, learning libraries and communications.
  • Proven experience and ability to analyse quantitative and qualitative data and generate insightful reports to uncover areas of opportunity and drive positive change.
  • Experience in partnering cross functionally, and with senior leaders to design and implement cultural change programs that are sustainable.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to communicate in a clear and compelling way through strong facilitation, storytelling and a high degree of professionalism.
  • General knowledge of internal People Systems including performance management, recruitment and learning and development.
  • Advance Microsoft suite skills in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel interstate and to Papua New Guinea as required.
  • Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must be able to complete a National Police Check & Navex Risk Rate Screening.

Location and working conditions

For the right candidate we are offering the flexibility for the role to be based in either Brisbane, QLD, Perth, WA or Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. There will be travel expected to Newmont sites within the APAC region and potentially Newmont corporate offices.
