About Lihir

Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. DIMENSIONS:

Responsible for overseeing the smooth operation of the plant and ensuring that production targets are met. They do this by identifying any issues or constraints that may be hindering production and taking steps to mitigate these risks. This may involve coordinating the allocation of resources to resolve conflicts and ensure that production can continue as planned.

In addition to these responsibilities, the Shift Coordinator must also ensure that all work is carried out in a safe manner, in accordance with established procedures. This involves ensuring that all workers are following safe work practices and that any potential hazards are identified and addressed.

PURPOSE & KEY RESULTS

  • This involves ensuring that all workers are following safe work practices and that any potential hazards are identified and addressed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Safety & Sustainability

  • Driving and influencing proactive safety behaviours within workgroups through visible leadership.
  • Ensuring all personnel, visitors and contractors comply with site and contractual HSE requirements and hold people accountable for adherence.
  • Planning work so that it can be conducted safely; and considers environmental conditions, nearby activities, and the people and other resources needed to complete the work.

Growth Strategy / Governance

  • Demonstrates personal responsibility for own health and safety and develops an understanding of the legal requirements, HSE standard operating procedures relevant to direct work area.
  • Works well with others, listens actively, seeks inputs and asks clarification questions to check understanding staying focused and composed in a variety of work situations.
  • Effectively manages own time to complete tasks in line with job expectations and requirements adjusting plans to cater for unforeseen events/disruptions.
  • Recognises problems and proactively works towards resolution under the guidance of immediate Superintendent.
  • Recognises opportunities to minimise waste and addresses it according to the HSE and operational standards and practices.

Operational Excellence

  • Ensures the Process Plant control centres are fully functional and delivering to plan Oversee Strategic Planning of Production to maximize Gold produced on a shift basis and ensure adherence to Lihir Operating Strategy
  • Delivers accurate and detailed hand-over on a shift-by-shift basis so the ongoing shift are fully briefed on the status on the plant through shift hand-over meetings both verbal and documented events on the OneView Shift hand-over report
  • Lead regular Shift Coordination meetings, Critical events collaboration, Shift Maintenance work prioritization and resources allocation in the Processing Operation, including Oxygen Plant, P&U, and Crushing.
  • Provide Daily Plant Summary Report to Senior Management Team and act as central point of plant control and communication of plant status during critical events, prolonged equipment breakdown and plant restart plans.
  • Ensure Operator Routines, Planned work tasks, Planned Shutdown and Plant Restart are completed in a timely and productive manner.
  • Pursue improvement in Plant Automation through monitoring of Critical Control Loop Modes, involvement on MPC and other Process control Automation project.

  • Develops team members through regular feedback, coaching and formal training.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The position is in Lihir, PNG.
  • This role is offered on a 28:14 Fly in, Fly out (FIFO) roster from multiple locations in PNG to Lihir island

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Visible leadership in safety, health and people.
  • Minimum level of Grade 12 education certificate essential.
  • Certificates/Statements of Attainment in relevant Metalliferous processing competencies desirable.
  • Proficient in English with excellent verbal, written communication and public speaking skills.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Sound planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.
  • Be able to work a FIFO roster
  • Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment
  • Must be able to complete a National Police Check & Navex Risk Rate Screening

Experience:

  • 5-10 years relevant work experience essential.
  • Experience with modern maintenance techniques and computerised maintenance systems including Foxboro control.

Technical Capabilities:

  • Work in accordance with PNG Mine Safety Act. Newmont Safety System, Safety Policies & Procedures and Newmont Environment Policies and all departmental operating procedures.
  • Skills in PPMS, DCS, Visualization, Shift logs and Pi trending data.
  • List any other unique skills to work in this role – either to be learnt on the job or essential before employment.
