About the role

The incumbent provides strong geotechnical support and services to TSF (Tailings Storage Facility) Operations and other Strategic Planning teams at K92 with particular emphasis on maintaining a minimum safe standard for all personnel, infrastructure and equipment on project site and mitigating geotechnical material hazards to the site and company.

Key / Major Accountabilities

Key accountabilities of this position include.

  • As a senior geotechnical engineer responsible for ‘Prescribed Structures, Dump Stockpiles and TSF’ you will be trusted to monitor, inspect, report, and communicate all adverse embankment response to TSF construction through:

      • Monitoring: Monitor the progress of tailing storage facilities construction activities, collating and summarizing data attained through engineering observations, mapping and testing, seismic monitoring, deformation monitoring (prisms, survey pick up, Piezometer & SAAV.)
      • Reporting: Ensure Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) and impromptu inspections and reporting on instances of failures or TARP triggers as requested by Project Manager completed, daily reports on monitoring and construction progress is completed, weekly reports on monitoring and construction as specified are completed and reconciliation of recorded as built is compared against design
      • Communication: Ensure clearly concise documentation communicating outcomes from your inspections and mapping of foundation work and prescribed structures, and ITP and all reports are provided to the appropriate stakeholders.
      • Processes & Procedures: Ensure prescribed structures and structures standards and procedures are implemented, employed, and maintained through periodic and offhand inspections, particularly in relation to hold points for ITP’s. It is your responsibility to identify areas that may have deviated from design and confirming TARP triggers are actioned, and Safe Work Procedures (SWP’s) are followed.

    As a senior member of the Projects Department, occasionally you will also be required to assist other Engineers with their responsibilities to ensure all major hazards are monitored, reporting is completed, processes and procedures are followed, and presentations given to appropriate stakeholders. The team responsibilities also include shared periodic on-call duties.

About You

To be considered for this position, candidates must have a degree qualification in Geotechnical, Civil or Mining Engineering from a recognized University. Must be a Registered Engineer Member of the Institute of Engineers PNG or eligible for registration within 6 months is essential. Additionally, candidates should also have some or all of the following.

  • 4+ years relevant work experience in similar senior roles in mining operations.
  • Experience with 3D models and use of AutoCAD, Surpac, Deswik and related software essential.
  • Lead and mentor a team of other engineers.
  • Strong operational background with demonstrated ability to bring projects to completion on time and on budget.
  • Proficiency in MS Projects preferable with a high level of computer skills with standard Microsoft office programs
  • Sound planning, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Initiative-taking with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
