Senior Business Analyst

Our Simberi Operations consists of an open cut mine on the northernmost island in the Tabar group of islands in the province of New Ireland in Papua New Guinea. We are currently seeking a Senior Business Analyst to join our team on a permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Vanimo, Wewak or Tabar group of Islands. Reporting to the Finance Superintendent.
The Senior Business Analyst will Provide finance and commercial support, analysis and governance to the Simberi Operation and projects.

Technical accountabilities
Safety
- Contribute to ensuring the Health and Safety of all personnel within the Finance department.
- Ensure compliance with SGCL reporting procedures for any reportable incident.
- Ensure 100% compliance with Personal Protective Equipment requirements in all work areas.
- Fully participate in the SGCL Safety Always Program.
Technical
- Ensuring timely and accurate reporting, by proactively working with Managers and Superintendents to ensure reported results are accurate, include all necessary accruals and revaluations and that variances are adequately explained against budgets and forecasts.
- Preparing and reviewing the annual budget and quarterly and ad-hoc forecasts.
- Ensuring compliance and consistency in applying all site accounting policies, procedures and processes in line with broader corporate finance policies.
- Leading a timely and accurate EOM reporting process.
- Ensuring all corporate reporting deadlines are met.
- Working co-operatively and in conjunction with other Commercial department staff to ensure best possible service to the operations.
- Implementing required policies, systems and procedures
- Continuing to examine ways in which to improve both the service provided and the cost of the finance and admin function.
- Monitoring, supervising and providing guidance to finance staff on all aspects of their roles.
- Taking a pro-active approach to problem solving and continual organisational change through the identification and implementation of better ways to complete tasks.
- Reviewing monthly variance analysis (actuals Vs forecast & financial year budget) and report to Simberi Management & Corporate Finance
- Reviewing monthly cost including cost initiatives to reduce where possible costs
- Providing finance business partnering to the Simberi operations and projects
Scheduling accountabilities
- Promote and adhere to the company’s internal methodologies, policies, procedures and standards by consistently maintaining a high quality of work across all allocated functions.
- Interpret legislation, government standards and agreements. Provide input/informed commentary, improvement opportunities and areas of risk to management.
- Be accountable for the quality of work output from the unit/department through an ongoing monitoring and audit process.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory and company standards through training and development of staff and promoting by example.
- Ensure all administration functions and tasks associated with the position are undertaken and completed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Identify training requirements of subordinates through consultation with the employees and the Simberi Gold Company Training Department.
- Using established training methods and in conjunction with the Training Department train subordinates to achieve competency in the area identified and within the scope of their position
- Participate in training provided by the business.
- Comply with established environmentally sustainable measures to not adversely impact on the natural fauna, flora, freshwater resources and marine life within the bounds of Simberi Island.
People accountabilities
- Ensure staff resources are maximised, and staff members undertake appropriate training and development, so they are skilled efficiently to perform allocated duties.
- Work with and develop the community through the support of company initiatives.

We would love to hear from you if you have:
Essential
- Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
- A degree qualification in Accounting or Commerce
- CPA qualified or equivalent
- At least 5 years relevant experience in budgeting, forecasting and management reporting
- Demonstrated experience ERP and accounting software
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
- Strong ability to work effectively within a team
- Strong communication skills, including communicating with people from different backgrounds and cultures
- Ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple tasks
- High level of enthusiasm for the work with high performance goals
- Commercial acumen relevant to the role
Desirable
- Experience in developing dashboards with Power BI
- Experience in the resource industry
