POSITION VACANT – SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

The Mapai Group is seeking to recruit a dedicated and experienced SENIOR ACCOUNTANT to join our team in Lae Head Office. Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, the incumbent is responsible for preparing financial reports, performing account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, preparing tax returns, assisting with audit preparations, and performing other accounting duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive the Group’s Accounts team and supervise to ensure all revenues and costs are accurately captured, measured, and reported timely.
  • Entering of Budget prepared by CFO, to improve year on year (YoY) profit margin.
  • Ensure verification, allocation, posting and reconciliation of accounts payable and receivable for month end according to aging period – 30days, 60days,
  • Ensuring AR team follows up and collects monies due within the trading terms (30 days, 60 days)
  • Ensuring AP team does reconciliations and pays monies due within the trading terms (30 days, 60 days)
  • Ensure taxes are reviewed and paid according to due dates and frequent communication with IRC on any tax matters, including Group Tax, GST, Corporate Taxes, and any other IRC related issues.
  • Ensure Superannuation contributions are correctly calculated, reconciled and remitted on a timely basis.
  • Ensure the company Fixed Assets Register (FAR) is maintained, updated with disposals and new assets. Physical verification of assets is done and reported monthly,
  • Ensure adequate insurance cover exists for all assets, claims are submitted timely and payments received as expected, and renewals for assets, staff and senior management and premiums paid.
  • Assist the CFO in providing the management Reports and cashflow analysis timely for all companies and associates,
  • Perform ad-hoc projects each month as required by the CFO/General Manager.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree of accounting or related qualification,
  • Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) membership to CPA PNG or equivalent (essential),
  • At least five (+5) years’ experience as a senior accountant, or accounts supervisor in a large organisation preferably transport and logistics business, investment, and finance company and/or major mining and FMCG industry
  • Experience in EDI systems, (particularly transport and logistic system),
  • A high level of leadership skills with ability to motivate both self and others.
  • Honest and ethical.
