Rehabilitation Supervisor – Revegetation and Nursery Management

We are currently seeking a Rehabilitation Supervisor – Revegetation and Nursery Management to join our team on a permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo or Tabar group of Islands. Reporting to the Manager – Rehabilitation and Closure.

The Rehabilitation Supervisor – Revegetation and Nursery Management is responsible for managing the environmental rehabilitation efforts, including nursery management at Simberi Gold Company Limited’s mine site. You will work closely with various stakeholders, including the environment, mining and other internal departments, and local communities/contractors, to ensure the company’s mining activities comply with environmental regulations and best practices.

The opportunity

Technical accountabilities

  • Establish and implement mine rehabilitation initiatives to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Manage rehabilitation activities and nursery operations to ensure sufficient seedling stock is maintained.
  • Maintain an up-to-date equipment/resources inventory and ensure adequate stock is available for the efficient execution of rehabilitation tasks.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of environmental rehabilitation efforts and make recommendations for improvement as needed.
  • Liaise with internal teams to facilitate open communication and collaboration on environmental rehabilitation initiatives.
  • Supervise rehabilitation activities and field works to ensure implementation of rehabilitation initiatives according to agreed plans.
  • Provide regular and timely feedback on the progress of rehabilitation initiatives to the Rehabilitation Department Superiors.
  • Prepare and submit reports on environmental rehabilitation efforts as and when required for internal and external reporting, including rehabilitation success.
  • Develop rehabilitation-associated procedures, forms, checklists and registers for documentation and record keeping.
  • Assist with environmental audits/inspections and report findings with appropriate corrective actions management to closure.
  • Assist with rehabilitation training programs to raise awareness among employees and contractors about environmental responsibilities, regulations, and best practices.
  • Respond to environmental incidents or complaints, including participation in investigations, implementing corrective actions, and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Attend to administrative tasks as requested by your supervisor and or as required by the Department.

Scheduling accountabilities

  • Managing effective use of available resources, including own time, in support of the delivery of the mine rehabilitation initiatives.

People accountabilities

  • Ensuring own work performance meets all role requirements and taking appropriate professional development actions.
  • Contributing to building and developing an effective team.
  • Effective field supervision of all field operations including Rehabilitation General Hands and contractor equipment.

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • Ability to produce a National Police Clearance (valid within the last three months) for site access purposes.
  • Undergraduate degree in Science / Agriculture or equivalent technical qualification and or experience.
  • At least three years of relevant extractive industry experience but not essential
  • Proficient and fully conversant in all Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Ability to multitask and play a key role within a demanding and challenging environment.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Proven problem-solving capability and prepared to accept responsibility.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of relevant environmental acts and regulations
  • Strong administration and coordination capability.
  • Ability to spent more than 75% of daily productive official hours out in field supervision

Desirable

  • Current PNG Class 6 Driver’s Licence
