Port Manager – Kiunga

An opportunity has risen within the Operation’s Division’s Outports department for an experienced Port Manager.

Based in Kiunga, this position will report to the Regional Airports Manager. This role is responsible for the overall leadership, management and support to the ground operations in Kiunga airport. Ensuring the airport functions effectively and efficiently to achieve an on time performance while maintaining its highest level of safety and an excellent customer service to PNG Air passengers

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee personnel and operational activities of the allocated airport;
  • Provide overall management, leadership and support to all staff;
  • Ensure training needs are identified and staff development is managed;
  • Provide solutions and advice on roster and manpower issues;
  • Overall management of appointments and trainings for staff;
  • Responsible for checking, verifying, including balancing cash drawers, counting money, and ensure that bank deposits are done daily.
  • Ensure CIT (where possible) on daily basis and provide report
  • Ensure all PO are scanned to Finance
  • All queries raised by finance are being attended in timely manner
  • Overall responsible for all cash & credit transactions to be handled accurately and securely.
  • Ensure daily financial report are sent to Finance
  • Adhere to Finance Policy FN-07-Cash handling Policy
  • Provide support to finance in line with FN-07 Policy
  • Ensure all reports are maintained and completed on a timely manner;
  • Update and maintain office policies and procedures;
  • Implement and monitor the effectiveness of policies and procedures;
  • Develop and implement cost efficient methods to assist with the airport’s policies and procedures;
  • Monitor and manage all expenses within the approved budget;
  • Overall management of GSE in the allocated airport;
  • Ensure equipment are well maintained and records are kept up to date;
  • Ensure inventory checks are carried out as per requirement and any defects and issues are escalated and resolved in a timely manner;
  • Ensure all staff in the allocated airport maintain a clean and professional working environment;
  • Responsible for monitoring compliance to time and attendance requirements and reporting;
  • Participate in staff development and provide feedback for staff succession planning as required;
  • Recruit, mentor and develop staff and nurture an environment where they can excel through encouragement and empowerment;
  • Ensure accurate and complete records of all performance issues are completed and held on file as required;
  • Manage performance of staff and ensure performance feedback is delivered to staff when necessary;
  • Provide general support to NAC and other stakeholders;
  • Maintain close relationships with external bodies, including airport owners and government bodies;
  • Act as the point of contact for internal and external clients to the allocated airport;
  • Liaise with Administration, Training and Controls Manager to handle requests and queries from operational areas in the allocated airport;
  • Liaise with Northern/Southern Airports Manager to handle requests and queries from the other ops critical areas in the allocated airport;
  • Ensure delays are handled within accordance of the delay handling procedures;
  • Provide feedback and suggest corrective action in relation to RPT scheduling issues affecting operations;
  • Encourage and facilitate open communication on all aspects of the business including feedback to the appropriate departments;

Key Attributes;

  • Minimum of Grade 12 and have appropriate relevant work experience;
  • Previous management experience in the airline industry;
  • Thorough understanding of airport operations;
  • Be able to understand and communicate with staff at all levels;
  • Have excellent customer service skills;
  • Have advanced computer skills preferably in the Microsoft suite of products;
  • Be physically fit; and
  • Have excellent knowledge of customer service, ramp and load control operations
  • The Ports Manager must be a Local resident and have their own accommodation as this role does not come with accommodation.
