Porgera | Trade Assistant - Underground Mechanical (232837)

New Porgera Limited (NPL) has an immediate position vacancy within the Underground Maintenance Section of the Mobile Maintenance Department for a Trade Assistant – Underground Mechanical. Reporting to the Supervisor – Underground Mechanical, the successful candidate will be required to assist the Tradesperson in a trainee capacity to carry out their duties in a safe and efficient manner, performing the following duties and responsibilities as required.

Key Responsibilities

As a Trade Assistant, you will:

• To assist with repairs and maintenance of machinery and mechanical components on any equipment supported by the section
• Work in a manner that will not endanger self or any other person
• Identifying the risks in their work area and using the correct controls
• Attend specific work area inductions and are aware of all workplace rules and procedures
• Be aware and capable of working safe and promote a safe working environment (personal safety and housekeeping)
• Be aware and adhere to standard environmental practices covering all areas from storage of oil, disposal of rubbish to handling wastewater
• Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant PJV policies & Procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

To succeed in this role, you will need:

• Minimum of Grade ten (10) or above level of education, preferably with some Basic Technical Skills
• To have completed Job Ready Program or Trade Assistant program, Level 1 – Level 3
• A minimum of 2–3-year experience in Trade Technical areas.
• Good level of numeracy & literacy skills
• Ability to work in a multi–cultural environment
• Able to work under minimum supervision
• Flexible to learn and adapt to changes in the department
• The capacity to work 12 hours shifts (day and night shifts)
• Must have an up-to-date police clearance certificate (acquired within the last 6 months)
