About Us
New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province. The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of life of the mine, it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports.
The NPL now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual as a Superintendent – Resettlement (231537)
About the role
Reporting to the Manager - Resettlement, the incumbent will be required to actively support the resettlement planning and implementation phases of the project, this will be achieved through day-to-day management of the resettlement program while also supporting the Manager – Resettlement in ensuring resettlement is undertaken in following best practice principles with key stakeholders, including local Landowners and the PNG National Government.
It is essential that the successful applicant is motivated and committed to achieving team objectives. They will have an excellent command of English and Pidgin both written and spoken and must be willing to work with and engage with the community.
In this role, you will:
• Ensure project deliverables are managed to cost, quality, quantity and schedule in accordance with project plan
• Manage the development and implementation of a resettlement action plan
• Manage consultants and team members to ensure project deliverables are achieved
• Actively support internal alignment and collaboration on the resettlement project through providing the required support to various teams involved with the resettlement project
• Manage allocated budget and regularly review and report on the approved resettlement budget
• Manage the necessary surveys and associated activities required to undertake a successful resettlement project
• Maintain sound records of all land surveys and associated data required to undertake a successful resettlement project
• Manage resettlement related grievances and ensure they are resolved as per the Barrick Grievance Procedure
About You
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:
• A minimum of 10 years’ experience in Project Management & Community Development
• Familiar with international best practice in land access and management in the mining industry and with resettlement, including preparation of Resettlement Action Plans (RAP’s)
• Demonstrated experience in the design, planning and implementation of resettlement programs, preferably in the extractive industry and in a Melanesian/Pacific context
• International experience in managing community relations activities in the extractive industries, with a focus on resettlement
• Demonstrated experience and success in project management including planning, management, budgeting, etc.
• Demonstrated success in stakeholder engagement generally and specifically in undertaking negotiations with traditional communities to achieve mutually acceptable outcomes under complex socio-cultural conditions
• Demonstrated team-player with ability to manage teams in a challenging environment
• Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and monitor processes and procedures that ensure timely and consistent implementation of activities with adequate monitoring and documentation
• Ability to prioritize tasks and ensure delegation where required
• Work well under pressure
• Sound conflict resolution skills
• Can apply strategic thinking to complex challenges resulting in practical solutions
• Ability to work in a challenging environment where there can be multiple demands on your time
• Degree qualification in Social Science, Land Management, Resettlement and or similar fields is required
