The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual as Engineer – Geotechnical, Underground

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Engineer, the UG Geotechnical Engineer applies and monitors geotechnical engineering systems to ensure all active mine areas remain at an acceptable level of risk from geotechnical hazards.

In this role, you will;

• Supervise and assist the core geotechnical activities for the underground mine
• Undertake geotechnical investigations, data collection for monitoring systems, geotechnical logging/ mapping, and associated reporting
• Prepare stope notes and geotechnical assessments of drives, RAR, etc.
• Provide in-house geotechnical support to the mining operations
• Other duties as directed by the Senior Geotechnical Engineer
• Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant PJV policies & Procedures

About You

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences

• Bachelor Degree in Engineering or Science, preferably with a Civil, Mining or Geology major
• At least 3 plus years’ relevant experience with UG geotechnical investigation, instrumentation, stope analysis and reporting skills
• Excellent technical and communication skills
• Experience in modelling and data analysis software (RS2, RS3, Map3D, Unwedge, Dips).
• Ability to learn and work with state-of-the-art monitoring equipment including extensometers

Mobilization Requirement

This is a PNG National Staff position, a site-based role on a Fly in Fly out arrangement with rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Must successfully pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening. (This will be arranged only for successful candidates who progress after the interview stage) and have an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
