POSITION TITLE: People & Culture Officer

ABOUT KTF:

KTF is an Australian international aid and development organisation working in Papua New Guinea (PNG).

We work with people and communities to improve the lives and futures of Papua New Guineans. We do this by: assisting remote and rural communities with access to elementary and primary education; improving access to quality and accessible healthcare; improving equality and safety for women and girls; and by fostering the next generation of leaders.

KTF is a member of the Australian Council for International Development and is accredited with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Australian Not-for-Profit Cooperation Program.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

KTF is seeking a highly motivated and skilled candidate for a newly created position to assist with KTF’s growth and expansion in Papua New Guinea. Reporting to the People & Culture (P&C) Coordinator who is based in Australia, this role will support the people function in the areas of recruitment, pre-boarding and onboarding, training, employee engagement, and HR administration and data management. The role will suit a qualified HR generalist with good knowledge of PNG workplace legislation, an eye for detail, and the enthusiasm to ensure an inclusive work environment for all KTF employees across PNG.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the recruitment of PNG-based employees, including liaison with hiring managers in PNG and Australia, candidate liaison, interview scheduling, interview panel support, and conducting reference checks;
  • Assist with the onboarding and induction processes, including monitoring the return of documents and compliance actions, and the delivery of induction training for PNG employees;
  • Respond to PNG employees’ leave queries, including ensuring leave is approved in line with KTF policies, and recording leave correctly;
  • Support PNG employee engagement related activities, including the Employee of the Month Program and Learning and Development activities;
  • Provide administrative support to the P&C Coordinator during performance management, employment contract, and probation processes;
  • Assist with the collection of HR data for reporting purposes;
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of P&C procedures, templates and systems;
  • Support other P&C initiatives and activities as required;
  • Support KTF project tasks if required;
  • Deliver the above in close collaboration with the P&C Coordinator.

YOUR SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:

To perform well in this role, you will need:

  • 3 years’ experience in a generalist HR role, preferably in a non-profit organisation;
  • A tertiary qualification in HR;
  • Good knowledge of PNG workplace legislation;
  • Strong capability with the use of technology (HRIS, GSuite, Dropbox, Excel, Word, Powerpoint);
  • Demonstrated experience of working in a fast-paced work environment managing conflicting deadlines;
  • Ability to work both individually as well as part of a team;
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written;
  • Can-do attitude, initiative, and great problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to travel to remote and rural areas of Papua New Guinea;
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality at work.

This position will require travel within PNG at times.

The role is open to applicants based in Port Moresby who will work from our Port Moresby office. The position does not include housing or other benefits. We will prioritize Papua New Guineans for this position.
