About the role

To be responsible for the provision of Occupational Health & Hygiene monitoring function across site and to assist with the development and implementation of all Occupational Health and Hygiene standards and codes of practice.

Key / Major Accountabilities

Key accountabilities of this position include.

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative risk focus studies relating to occupational health issues.
  • Maintain regular occupational hygiene monitoring on (but not restricted to):- noise, dust, light, vibration, ergonomics, and biological issues.
  • Specific focus to underground operations
  • Participate in workplace inspections and audits.
  • Manage the safety team in terms of work location, tasks, priorities – in consultation with the OHSET Superintendent.
  • Act as a role model for all Safety Officers.
  • Where relevant and applicable – guide, coach, and mentor the Safety Officers.

About You

To be considered for this position, candidates must have a minimum of 4 years’ experience as Health & Hygiene officer/advisor in an extractive industry. You must be tertiary qualified at Diploma level or above in Health and Safety. In addition to this, you will have some or all the following.

  • Experience in conducting quantitative and qualitative risk focus studies relating to occupational health issues and provide relevant recommendation for corrective measures.
  • Experience in maintaining regular occupational hygiene monitoring on noise, dust, light, vibration, ergonomics, and biological issues.
  • Experience in developing and implementing occupational hygiene programs with specific focus to underground operations and other identified areas of exposure.
  • Must be able to participate in workplace inspections and audits.
  • Must act as a role model for all Safety Officers.
  • Must be able to - where relevant and applicable – guide, coach, and mentor the Safety Officers.
