POSITION TITLE: MIDWIFE SUPERVISOR

CONTEXT

Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) is a private, non-profit international humanitarian organization, founded in 1971 and working in 70 countries around the world. MSF provides medical assistance to populations in crisis, regardless of race, religion, belief or political affiliation. In PNG, MSF has been working since 2007 in Lae, Taric, Bougainville, Gulf and NCD Provinces. MSF is now working to support the Department of Health to improve access to care for patients in JIWAKA and Highlands.

JOB PROFILE

  • Supervising, supporting, and evaluating the team under his/her responsibility particularly midwives, midwife assistants and other related staff in the team.
  • Planning and organizing their work and coaching them with special focus in following all appropriate protocols and procedures.
  • Supervising the clinical activities in all the maternity departments and activities such as ante-natal consultations, delivery and after delivery follow up, post-natal consultations, family planning consultations, new-born vaccinations and liaising with the Medical Doctor about the patients who need special care times, visiting hours, etc.
  • Ensuring that the staff on duty knows, implements, and always follows the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control in the medical premises ensuring high standards of hygiene in working environment.
  • Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained, cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are per-formed according to the protocols, reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
  • Being responsible for the department-related pharmacy activities (stock and consumption monitoring) as well as maintenance of the medical equipment.
  • Being responsible for ensuring that all the administrative procedures, patients’ data and documents are filled in correctly and registered for compiling monthly reports reflecting the activity in the department.
  • In certain contexts, being responsible for ensuring that the maternity staff is able to identify, receive and provide care to the victims of the SGBV in collaboration with the Obs Gyne MD and following the protocols
  • Responsible for conducting training and capacity development activities (e.g. coaching) with health facility staff and volunteers (Village Health Volunteers – VHVs). Working across Jimi, North Waghi and Anglimp-South Waghi.
  • Collaborate with the Officer in Charge (OIC) and health center staff, identify and organize the training for the nurses, health extension officers (HEOs), HP officers, and CHWs, and VHVs in addressing health issues that are present within the community. Following the trainees up in their daily consultation with the patients through coaching.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Diploma of Midwife (or any Diploma recognized in the country by the Ministry of Health to practice as such)

Languages:English and local languages

Knowledge: At less two years working experience as Midwife

Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
