Mechanical Supervisor

Our Simberi Operations consists of an open cut mine on the northernmost island in the Tabar group of islands in the province of New Ireland in Papua New Guinea. We are currently seeking a Mechanical Supervisor to join our team. permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent.

Supervision of the maintenance team to ensure provision of effective and responsive maintenance support to Simberi Operations to safely achieve the equipment availability and asset utilisation essential for optimum process operations.

The opportunity

Technical accountabilities

  • Ensuring your own Health & Safety as well as that of the other members of the Simberi Maintenance Section.
  • Providing efficient and effective maintenance supervision support to Simberi Operations to ensure that the processing plant can always operate optimally. This includes being available for callout or breakdowns assisting the night shift team.
  • Ensuring all required site reports (job and services report, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly reports) are accurate and submitted on time.

  • Continuously improve the maintenance management system (preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and improvement maintenance) to reduce downtime and improve overall maintenance costs.

  • Initiating orders of spares and consumables to ensure optimum level of inventory while meeting the operational requirements.
  • Ensure all breakdowns/delays are escalated in a timely manner to the Superintendent or Manager.
  • Providing advice to the Maintenance Superintendent, Maintenance Manager, Process Manager and Mine Manager on any anticipated down time or delays.
  • Contributing to the Maintenance Section to ensure that the Processing Department delivers to plan in respect of production, gold recovery and cost per tonne.
  • Ensuring all statutory requirements of the role are met.
  • Ensuring all tasks are carried out in an environmentally sustainable manner.
  • Contributing productively as a member of the Simberi Maintenance Team.

Scheduling accountabilities

  • Managing the best use of your own time and other resources to achieve the required outcomes.
  • Reporting HSEC incidents and investigated to identify appropriate controls required.
  • Being fit for work to attend breakdowns or callouts after hours to provide support and ensure all breakdowns or delays are repaired in a timely manner as per the scheduled roster.

People accountabilities

  • Contributing to the building and development of an effective Mechanical Maintenance Team.

  • Ensuring all team members are accountable for compliance of implemented Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, operating procedures, and compliance to other external agency regulatory requirements.
  • Ensuring that the team have the necessary competencies, awareness and training to effectively manage HSEC.

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • Ability to produce a National Police Clearance (valid within the last 3 months) for site access purposes
  • Current unencumbered PNG Driver’s Licence
  • A Certificate III Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • At least five (5) years relevant work experience, post trade qualification
  • Strong ability to work effectively within a team
  • Strong communication skills, including communicating with people from different backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple tasks
  • High level of enthusiasm for the work with high performance goals
  • Commercial acumen relevant to the role

Desirable

  • Relevant resources industry work experience
