About the role

New Porgera Limited is seeking an experienced and dedicated Manager – Communications & Public Affairs to join our team based in Port Moresby, with a requirement to spend regular time in Porgera.

Reporting to the Country Manager, the Manager – Communications & Public Affairs will be responsible for the planning and execution of our public relations and communications strategy and team, providing internal and external communications relating to both NPL’s mining operations and related matters. NPL operates in a complex environment that requires the successful applicant to be a self-starter, aware of micro and macro issues, with strong ability in devising strategies to support the mines successful operation and external relations whilst coordinating the efforts of your team members and third-party contractors to deliver projects according to plan in a timely and succinct manner.

You will need to build and maintain relationships from our operating environment through media organisations, NGO’s, local interest groups to Government and Board level, crafting both strategy and messaging that reflects our business priorities in a highly dynamic world, across multiple partners and cultures that reflects our values, whilst also ensuring NPL is communicating consistently and effectively to our internal team.

As leader of the NPL Communications function, you will have a broad remit across brand and marketing, event management, crisis communications, Internet and Intranet rebuild and content creation and social media position, messaging, newsletters, media response and releases and contributions to speeches and papers.

About you

To succeed in this role, it is expected you will have a bachelor’s degree in marketing, Journalism, English or a related field with proven experience in a dynamic environment producing high quality material for internal and external audiences that must understand local and international audiences.

Experience in PNG is essential, with a strong understanding of Mining/Oil & Gas /heavy Industry is preferred but not essential with an ability to analyse issues; making sound judgements and recommendations relating to policy and its implementation.

You will be a natural self starter who will bring initiative and ideas to your team, set a clear strategy, accountability and visible leadership with a focus on stakeholder requirements. Given the dynamic environment, you must demonstrate agility and an ability to work effectively under pressure, understand and meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
