ABOUT BALIMO COLLEGE:
Balimo College is the newest tertiary educational institution in Western Province, having opened in the 2022 academic year. Our vision is to enhance the region by delivering high-quality education, fostering research, and promoting community engagement. We are dedicated to creating pathways for future teachers and health workers committed to improving access to essential services across Western Province. Balimo College is a PNG Sustainable Development Program initiative implemented in partnership with KTF. The college benefits from technical assistance provided by Western Sydney University (WSU) and partners with Divine Word University (DWU) to enhance its educational offerings.
ABOUT THE ROLES:
Balimo College is currently recruiting for a number of Lecturer positions who are experienced in working with tertiary-level students. We are currently seeking lecturers who have a background in the following specialisms:
- Mathematics
- Social Science
- Sciences
- Research
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The responsibilities of our lecturers include:
- Teaching & Learning
- Actively and pro-actively enhance the quality of teaching and learning;
- Analyse and evaluate available data on student performance and take appropriate action to improve teaching and learning outcomes;
- Promote the use of ICT and of developments in Digital Learning Technologies and actively support the students to enable their studies with the support of ICT;
- Engage in developing ICT opportunities with technologies and support utilising technology for implementation in the classroom;
- Support the Principal with the delivery and moderation of assessment and reporting across whole staff cohort;
- Manage a personal teaching load within specialism.
- Vision, Mission & Culture
- Uphold the Mission, Vision, Values, Educational Philosophy and Goals of the Balimo College in all operations.
- Be able to hold a vision for the College and support and engage others to the realisation of that vision.
- Understand and maintain a College culture that will characterise the College as a place of care, academic excellence, transparency and integrity, accountability, and commitment to the community.
- Manage and advocate a strong collaborative service culture within the College and local community.
- Administration
- Be familiar with College administration procedures;
- Support the Principal, the admissions and the admin team when need arises in a timely manner for the smooth running of the college;
- Attend all teacher PD meetings, attend termly staff meetings and record details if required by the principal for wider circulation to staff;
- Be familiar with the Balimo College calendar an attend all calendared meetings and lectures in a timely manner;
- Ensure personal full compliance of the College rules and behavioural expectations for yourself and your students;
- Delivery of the curriculum;
- Monitor and record student’s information clearly, coherently and confidentially for the identification and conducting of learner assessments;
- Alert the Principal to any maintenance requirements that you are aware of;
- Alert the Principal to any issues of Occupational Health and Safety Policy and Procedures on site.
- Enrolment of Students
- Support the Principal and the admissions team when need arises in the admission processes for prospective students and their families (where appropriate) for enrolment suitability according to the Balimo College Enrolment Policy;
- Professional Development
- Regularly attend Professional Development Training Seminars to keep abreast of current educational trends;
- Attend and be actively engaged in appropriate Professional Development and facilitate staff attendance at professional development activities;
- Keep up to date with current educational thought and practice;
- Discuss professional pathways with line management during PD sessions;
- Engage with Student Feedback Unit reflections with your line management and facilitate the completion of these with the students;
- Complete Unit Feedback questionnaires in a timely manner;
- Support the Principal to implement the Balimo College Professional Learning and Development Policy where it aligns to your specialism.

- Any other duties as directed by the Balimo College Management;
- Adhere to all Balimo College policies and procedures including the code of conduction; child protection policy; no alcohol, drugs, & betelnut policy, statement of equity goals policy, and fraud and corruption prevention policy.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree of Education – Required
- Masters degree qualification in your specialist subject area – Required
- Minimum 5 years of teaching experience – Required
- Experience teaching in a teachers college – highly desirable
SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:
- Knowledge of education regulations and compliance standards in PNG;
- Knowledge of a range of educational theories, techniques, and methodologies of personnel and management and a strong interest in current educational and technological trends;
- High level of communication, mentoring and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently or as a member of a team;
- A good understanding and competence of technology for email communications, data management, and administration;
- Strong problem-solving skills with an ability to analyse and assess classroom contexts and decisively take a course of action;
- Ability to research, select and use a wide range ot teaching and assessment strategies to suit the needs of a diverse range of students, including those with disabilities and from other disadvantaged groups;
- Open to learning new and innovative approaches to learning through the use of technology.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Applicants must have the right to work in PNG.
- The position may require travel within PNG from time to time.
