Information and Communications Technology Officer (ICT)

Where you come in:

In this full-time maximum term position based in Port Moresby, you will work closely with key departments, IT Leads in Pacific Country Offices and in Melbourne Office (MO). ICT will ensure ICT focal points in provincial locations have adequate capacity to trouble shoot minor issues and manage ICT equipment. The ICT Officer will use their ICT expertise by troubleshooting issues, and ensuring timely maintenance of all communications/IT software and equipment across Save the Children in Papua New Guinea (SCiPNG) functions.

You will make an impact by:

  • Providing timely technical assistance to all ICT software and hardware support enquiries. Troubleshoot and maintain network devices (e.g., printers, scanners). Ensure all IT problems within the office(s) are identified, solutions found and implemented
  • Carrying out routine, preventive maintenance/checks and troubleshoot problems with all offices. Ensure all systems are virus free; internet network functional and per agreement with internet service provider, and backup of server files is current.
  • Ensuring software and hardware installations are compliant with Save the Children policies and procedures.
  • Providing Overall management of ICT resources to provide efficient service delivery; ensure ICT resources are well maintained, and services are cost effective.
  • Performing IT inventory checks as required; maintain up-to-date asset register of all ICT equipment.

Does this sound like you?

  • You have the ability to multitask, work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines, responsive to external requests and a strong team player. You have experience identifying target audiences and troubleshoot issues and have experience managing large scale communications to all ICT Focal points. You have ability to ensure email account maintenance is according to all ICT policy and procedures.

This role requires:

  • Diploma in ICT.
  • At least three (3) years working experience in a similar position.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Power Apps
  • Proven knowledge of hardware maintenance and ability to solve simple hardware problems; this includes set-up and management of network devices (e.g., printers, scanners)
  • Solid experience in maintaining, troubleshooting and administering a Microsoft Windows-based (local area) network
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Tok-Pisin
  • Self-motivated, confident and able to take initiative, and work with the minimum supervision
  • Able to work harmoniously in across cultural environment.

Role Purpose

This position will provide ICT services by troubleshooting issues, and ensuring timely maintenance of all communications/IT software and equipment across Save the Children in Papua New Guinea (SCiPNG) functions. S/he will ensure ICT focal points in provincial locations have adequate capacity to trouble shoot minor issues and manage ICT equipment.

The ICT Officer reports to the People and Culture Manager, and works closely with all key departments such as Finance, Supply Chain, People & Culture, Safety and Security, and SCiPNG’s provincial field teams.

Key Areas of Accountability

ICT Technical Services

  • Provide timely technical assistance to all ICT software and hardware support enquiries. Troubleshoot and maintain network devices (e.g., printers, scanners). Ensure all IT problems within the office(s) are identified, solutions found and implemented.
  • Ensure email account maintenance is according to all ICT policy and procedures.
  • Ensure software and hardware installations are compliant with Save the Children policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that satellite phone equipment is operational and SIM cards are always activated.
  • Carry out routine, preventive maintenance/checks and troubleshoot problems with all offices. Ensure all systems are virus free; internet network functional and per agreement with internet service provider, and backup of server files is current.
  • Ensure that visitors (e.g., staff from other locations, consultants) have the necessary IT assistance to enable them carry out their official assignments during their visits.
  • Set up equipment such as projectors, printers, photocopiers, and scanners, cameras for everyday office use and as necessary for meetings.

ICT Resource Management

  • Overall management of ICT resources to provide efficient service delivery; ensure ICT resources are well maintained, and services are cost effective.
  • Appropriately train ICT staff/focal points on their responsibilities.
  • Regularly update ICT plans, policies, and procedures, ensuring they are consistent with Save the Children requirements (in consultation with Melbourne Office IT).
  • Ensure staff are informed, acknowledge, and understand ICT policies and procedures. Report any potential misuse of ICT systems/equipment and major violations of organizational standards.
  • Ensure all ICT purchasing complies with Save the Children procurement policies and procedures.
  • Perform IT inventory checks as required; maintain up-to-date asset register of all ICT equipment.
