We are currently seeking to recruit a Geotechnical Technician for our Project Services Department. Reporting to the Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer (RTFE), the primary objective of this role is maintaining geotechnical monitoring systems and equipment in the field, performing tests, taking samples, readings or measurements and accurately entering data. This role ensures the safety and stability of the tailings facility by maintaining comprehensive records and data storage systems, complying with safety and environmental regulations, and collaborating with engineering and environmental teams to support decision-making processes

Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Ensure Job Specific Safety Skills and Responsibilities are met.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the Company Health and Safety systems
  • Initiate new orders for stock.
  • Ensure all field supplies are adequate, on-hand and if need be order and purchase field consumables in consultation with the Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer.
  • Maintenance of Company field equipment and vehicles.
  • Contribute to the communication of data to management.
  • Contribute to the preparation of tailings facility reports.
  • Contribute to the manipulation and storage of field data to maintain data integrity.
  • Complete the downloading of data from monitoring equipment to ensure to completion of regulatory and company monitoring programs.
  • Ensure data collected are accurately recorded and continuously update on the digital database.
  • Assist in ensuring adequate spare parts are always available to maintain equipment.
  • Ensure monitoring equipment is functioning correctly at all times.
  • Communicate concerns raised by stakeholders to RTFE.
  • Contribute to the timely completion of geotechnical monitoring programs to meet regulatory and company requirements.
  • Contribute to the calibration of measurement instruments including field calibrations.
  • Arrange for delivery of samples to appropriate Laboratories.
  • Carrying, labelling, packaging and transporting samples.
  • Carry out field Geotechnical Engineering tests.
  • Sample for rock & soil testing for engineering purposes.
  • Provide progressive updates to the RTFE.
  • Daily monitoring and collection of geotechnical data.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:

  • Must have minimum grade 12 education or relevant tertiary qualification
  • Must be computer literate in Microsoft suits – Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access.
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Experience in Automatic Prisms Monitoring Systems.
  • Be proactive and field oriented
