GENERATOR OPERATOR-LAE BASE
International Food Corporation ltd, the leading manufacture of Besta Mackerel and Tuna products in PNG and South Pacific seeking to recruit highly motivated and qualified experience individual to fill the position of Generator Operator.
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:
Troubleshoots and repairs alternating current electrical systems on generators, automatic transfer switches, generator controls and engine related mechanical failures; and performs routine preventative maintenance, oil and filter changes and inspections on all generator and by-pass pumps.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct pre-start up checks ensuring all parameters and requirements are met for safe and efficient operation of the generator
- Start or stop generators, auxiliary equipment, and other power plant equipment and connect or disconnect equipment from circuits
- Adjust generator output controls to match the phase, frequency and voltage of electricity supplied to specified plants and control panels.
- Control and maintain auxiliary equipment such as pumps, condenser, filters, fuel and lubricant supply, air, etc.
- Monitor and inspect generator and associated auxiliary components and indicators to detect evidence of operating problems
- Take readings from meters, gauges and charts to establish intervals and take necessary steps as necessary
- Collect oil, water or electrolyte samples for analysis where required.
- Examine and test power distribution.
- Inspect records and log book entries and communicate with superiors to assess operating status.
- Attend to calls and call in necessary personnel during outage and emergencies
- Record and compile operational data, logs and reports.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine types of major maintenances needed.
- Inspect generator computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade.
- Execute daily and weekly cleaning procedures.
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma and 3-5 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certification in Internal Combustion Engines and Electro- Mechanical Systems preferred.
- Inspect generator engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately.
- knowledge of 12-24 VDC electrical systems and procedures, methods and techniques to design, install, repair and maintain generators, by-pass pumps, starters, pumps, valves, motors and gauges.
- Knowledge of diesel, gasoline, propane driven internal combustion engines.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations governing the operation of equipment and materials.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to equipment operation, hazardous materials and other work-related precautions.
- Provide accurate estimates (cost, time, effort) for a repair or maintenance job Keep logs on work and issues
- Ability to work independently and make routine decisions on the operation of the plant processes and equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve issues quickly and effectively.
- Knowledge of AC/DC power systems.
