The Company
Our client, a major player in the oil and gas sector and operator of significant projects in PNG, is currently seeking a General Accountant to join their Port Moresby-based team. The General Accountant is responsible for managing day-to-day general accounting activities, ensuring timely reconciliations and reporting, maintaining compliance with International Accounting Standards and supporting the financial close and audit processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform monthly general ledger and bank reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timely journal entries.
  • Ensure monthly and annual fiscal compliance and reporting are facilitated on time.
  • Prepare, review, and post general journals in SAP, ensuring proper documentation and compliance.
  • Assist Chief Accountant and Finance Manager with matters relating to statutory audit and group and JV audits.
  • Support the implementation of new accounting standards and help develop accurate processes and journals.
  • Assist the Chief Accountant with monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes. Ensure company accounts are reconciled to fulfil SOX requirements prior to publication of quarterly and annual reports.
  • Prepare and lodge tax forms and filings monthly.
  • Monitor workflow invoices, vendor data accuracy and adherence to SOX controls and company accounting Standards.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
  • Degree in Accounting or equivalent, preferably in oil and gas or similar industry.
  • At least 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in oil and gas or similar industry
  • Strong understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards.
  • Proficient in SAP and Excel; analytical mindset with high attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with diverse teams
  • Able to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities effectively.
