About the role

In this role you will oversee, and ensure aspects of planning and implementation of maintenance, engineering designs, and project works on underground distribution system, underground electrical equipment, instrumentations, and controls are carried out to maintain and sustain electrical equipment operating reliably.

Training of electrical and instrumentation personal skill sets to effectively monitor and maintain the electrical and control systems at the underground mine, with reference to the electrical components and safety.

Ensure all electrical and instrumentation works are carried out in compliance with regulated electrical standards; PNG Codes, Mine Safety Act and Regulations 1977, AS/NZS 3000:2017, AS/NZS 3008.1.1: 2017 and industry best practice.

Key / Major Accountabilities

  • Maintain availability and reliability of underground equipment, power supply equipment, instrumentation, and controls through planned maintenance programs.
  • Working within electrical operating budget and or costs as required and in consultation with management.
  • Support the management on projects and tasks as streamlined and delegated.
  • Ensure all statutory electrical inspections and works are carried out underground electrical equipment safely.
  • Overseeing and maintaining all electrical documentation and records. These include equipment specifications, data sheets, as build drawings, scope of works, change of management, and report writing.
  • Oversee, carry out engineering study, estimates, prepare technical drawings, P&IDs, E&I Schematics/SLDs, and specifications of electrical and control systems, procurement, and ensure installation conform to standards, project requirements, and safe operational requirements.
  • Communicates exceptionally within the team and in cross functional works with other departmental sections and groups.
  • Assist with diagnosing electrical defects or hazards on systems, underground electrical equipment, and identify adjustments, repair timely, and drive team to take key learnings.
  • Identify areas of sustainable improvement and drive to improve underground electrical equipment on time.
  • Develop and assist with budgeting to meet underground electrical equipment operational requirements.
  • Oversee reliability and maintenance of alarms, safety devices, and emergency electrical systems underground.
  • Oversee planning, and delegation of routine preventive maintenance and repair maintenance tasks to subordinates and provide support, and supervision where required.
  • Work long and odd hours to meet work schedules, underground operational requirements.
  • Ensure and maintain safe work standards and practices in accordance with K92 Mine OHSET safety standards and Mine Safety Regulations for all tasks performed
  • Effectively communicate on day-to-day maintenance issues with the Superintendent and with other Sections and work groups by providing updates of relevant issues and seeking information or input as required.
  • Liaise with relevant sections to provide input to various maintenance activities, e.g., assist the Mobile Maintenance Section in the planning and development of day-to-day and weekly maintenance activities and work closely with procurement personnel.
  • Implement consistent compliance with set maintenance priorities by effectively planning personnel and material resources, effectively communicating day-to-day maintenance priorities with Supervisors, and monitoring and following up on consistency of maintenance standards and practices.
  • Train and direct the Technician Electrician UG to ensure they work as required to support the Planning and Scheduling activity and to ensure they correctly prepare work order work packages for the supervisors.
  • Compile Monthly reports and reports on KPI’s and any report required by management.
  • Support Project activities within the underground maintenance group
  • Create and maintain annual maintenance schedule and budget include monthly and quarterly cost

About You

  • Relevant Electrical Trade qualifications and/or higher certification in an Electrical Engineering discipline
  • Computer literate – Advanced Microsoft Office applications, MS project/MS Access.
  • Ten years post-trade experience in an industrial mining or petrochemical environment is essential including a minimum of seven years leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the initiative and drive to effectively supervise a maintenance workgroup in a technically challenging maintenance environment.
  • Current PNG Driver’s license.
  • Mine site experience.
  • Must be a NATTB Level 3 Electrical Mechanic Tradesman with PNG Power EW10 certification.
  • Maintain current electrician’s license to meet government regulations.
  • The person shall have wide experience in the installation and maintenance of underground power distribution systems, transformer installations, motor control centres, LVHV transfers, and starters; and in the maintenance of underground equipment – electric motors, compressor stations and other electrical equipment.
  • Experience in the use of Pronto will be advantageous.
  • Sound planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent trouble shooting skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.
