FACULTY OF SCIENCES

The Faculty of Sciences at PNGUoT comprises the Schools of Applied Physics, Mathematics & Computer Science, and Applied Sciences.

About the Role

The Dean will provide leadership in strategic planning, faculty appointment, budgetary and administrative oversight, stewardship and development, and multidisciplinary partnerships. Reporting to the Pro Vice Chancellor Academic, the Dean will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the faculty and ensuring international benchmarking/accreditation of all programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead academic planning and policymaking to enhance teaching, learning, and research.
• Drive accreditation processes to ensure all programs meet international academic standards.
• Foster excellence and integrity in education, research, and community engagement.
• Drive partnerships and collaboration with industry, government, and academic institutions to expand research opportunities.
• Oversee budget and financial resource management to support faculty growth and sustainability.
• Develop and implement strategies to attract high-caliber faculty and staff, ensuring diversity and inclusiveness.
• Liaise with industries/agencies/Gov Departments to secure student PWE placements.

What We Are Looking For

• Qualifications: A Doctoral degree in a discipline within the Faculty of Sciences from a recognized university.
• Experience: Minimum 15 years in a similar leadership role with a distinguished academic or industry track record.
• Skills & Attributes:
  • Strong leadership skills, including organizational and team building, decision-making, and negotiation.
  • Experience in strategic planning
  • Capability to inspire faculty with diverse interests
  • Effective written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Expertise in research techniques and policy formulation.
  • Proven capability in resource management and funding acquisition.
  • Proven track record of developing multidisciplinary programs and fostering an internationally focused educational experience for students, with a commitment to global partnerships.
  • Prepared to execute the Institute’s strategic plan.
  • Skilled in fiscal management and resource allocation.

Conditions of Service

Base Salary Range: Professor PGK95,366 - PGK116,558 per annum

Base DMA Range: PGK43,069 - PGK74,653 per annum

DMA = Domestic Market Allowance

(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
