The Communication and Outreach Officer will work directly on initiatives to increase the information dissemination visibility of the 1-Tok Helpim Lain (helpline) and promote its services, and lead all outreach activities including highlighting of the helpline to effectively inform the GBV sector and public on the Helpline services. They will be guided by the helpline’s strategic plan and communications plan.
KEY DUTIES
Develop and Implement communication strategy for helpline service and promote information dissemination in remote rural communities across PNG.
Lead the implementation of the Communication and Visibility plan and deliver plan activities within the agreed timeframe.
Design and develop promotional and outreach materials for internal and external audiences.
Identify and engage key community stakeholders, organizations, and influencers to collaborate on community outreach initiatives.
Build and maintain positive relationships with local media outlets to promote the helpline service and crisis response efforts.
Develop, write, and edit content for various communication channels, including social media, websites, newsletters, and brochures.
Ensure all content is aligned with the organization's values, messaging guidelines, and the needs of the community.
Collect and analyse data related to community outreach and helpline usage to inform strategic planning and improve services.
Prepare regular reports on outreach activities, communications efforts, and key metrics to stakeholders and management.
Evaluate the effectiveness of communication and outreach initiatives by assessing community engagement and feedback.
Implement improvements based on evaluation findings to enhance outreach efforts and impact.
Tailor outreach efforts based on the identified needs of different communities across all provinces in PNG.
Collaborate with partners on GVB/CP campaigns to promote the helpline, ensuring it reaches marginalized groups and those who may benefit from crisis support services.
Advocate for the helpline's services at community events, conferences, and other relevant forums to increase public awareness.
Ensure compliance with CF policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Minimum of bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field.
Advocacy, influencing and/or behaviour change programming experience will be a strong asset.
Ability to conceptualize, design and implement information dissemination strategies.
Minimum of three years’ proven experience in the field of Communication within the development sector
Experience working with communities, CSO partners and government departments.
Good knowledge of visual design and layout development for information materials
DESIRABLE
Gender and Child protection program experience and implementing campaign initiatives.
Communication, presentation, networking, and advocacy skills
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and ability to work under tight deadlines.
Good research and analytical skills; Strong verbal and written communication skills, fluent in English both in writing and in speech.
Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding or sexual exploitation, abuse or harassment (SEAH) risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding and PSEAH policy and procedures, and conduct yourself consistent with those policies.
