Summary

The Class 7 (Heavy Equipment) Operator will operate and maintain multiple types of heavy equipment, including backhoes, rollers, loaders, excavators, and more. They will perform various tasks related to excavation, construction, and earthmoving operations while ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate and control heavy equipment, such as boom crane, backhoes, rollers, loaders, excavators, and other machinery, following safety guidelines and best practices.
  • Perform routine pre-start inspections and maintenance checks on equipment to ensure proper functionality.
  • Operate equipment to excavate, grade, level, and move earth, rocks, debris, or other materials as required for construction or maintenance projects.
  • Ensure accurate positioning and maneuvering of heavy equipment to achieve project goals and specifications.
  • Comply with project plans, drawings, and instructions to carry out excavation and earthmoving activities.
  • Monitor and maintain adequate fuel and lubricant levels in equipment, refilling as necessary.
  • Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently, adhering to all safety regulations and protocols.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, breakdowns, or incidents to supervisors or maintenance staff.
  • Follow proper storage and maintenance procedures for heavy equipment during non-operational periods.
  • Collaborate with project teams, supervisors, and other operators to ensure smooth operations and timely project completion.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance activities, and production outputs.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety standards at all times.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements

  • Valid driver's license with appropriate endorsements to operate heavy equipment. (COMPULSORY)
  • Proven experience operating multiple types of heavy equipment, including backhoes, rollers, loaders, excavators, and others. (COMPULSORY)
  • Good knowledge of equipment operation, maintenance, and safety practices.
  • Ability to interpret and follow project plans, drawings, and instructions.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and depth perception.
  • Excellent spatial awareness and judgment of distances and angles.
  • Physical strength and stamina to operate heavy equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and outdoor environments.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Grade 10 and 12 or equivalent. (COMPULSORY)
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of equipment usage and maintenance activities.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in operating mutiple type of heavy equipment

  • Adherence to any additional equipment operation requirements set by local or national regulatory bodies.
  • Regular participation in safety training and meetings.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and inclement weather.
  • Physical stamina and endurance to operate heavy equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Work in construction sites and other outdoor environments. They may be exposed to noise, dust, vibrations, and other environmental factors.
