Duties and Responsibilities

JD of Carpenter (National)

Carpenter performs a variety of rough and finish carpentry, millwork, and other tasks required to repair, alter, construct, reconstruct, install, and maintain structures and furnishings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Measures, cuts, shapes, assembles, and joins materials made of wood, wood substitutes, and other materials.
  • Performs skilled carpentry work in the maintenance, repair, alteration and construction of buildings, facilities, structures, and equipment.
  • Reads and interpret drawings and sketches to determine specifications and to calculate requirements.
  • Works to schedule timely task-completion.
  • Maintains tools and materials used on job sites.
  • Maintains daily job site housekeeping.
  • Ability to excavate, form and pour concrete elements to plan and code.
  • Ability to complete basic layouts for footings, floor systems and walls as per approved plan.
  • Ability to layout, cut and assemble a hand framed roof system with minimal supervision.

  • High attention to detail in completion of all jobs.
  • Ability to read plans, diagrams, blueprints, sketches, specifications, and working drawings of construction jobs.
  • Ability to work to schedule, and on-time delivery.
  • Ability to collaborate appropriately with build team members and management.
  • Ability to act with integrity, credibility, self-confidence, and work independently.
  • Experience and comfortable working at heights.
  • Knowledge of carpentry
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act, and Construction regulations.
  • Knowledge of safe operation of basic hand and power tools.
  • 3+ years hands on experience

PHYSICAL

  • Spends 100% of time in the field at work sites. Lifting, pulling, and managing heavy equipment and objects. Working at heights. Working with hand and power tools.

ENVIRONMENTAL

  • Spends time inside job sites and outside in all weather conditions including cold and heat. May be exposed to chemical substances during their work.

EQUIPMENT

  • Uses tools to complete job tasks.

PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  1. Quality of work – Accuracy of dimensions and final finishing
  2. Timeline - Accuracy of 5-day plans and keeping within the construction timeline.

Job Requirements

3 years + experience in site carpentery job.
Reference letter from previous employer

No criminal record

Physically fit

Able to work under the sun
