The Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Matheson Library team as an Assistant Librarian – Cataloguing.

Assistant Librarian – Cataloguing
This role is crucial in ensuring the efficient organization, accessibility, and discoverability of our library’s resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately catalog and classify library materials of all formats (books, periodicals, audiovisual, and digital resources) using standardized cataloging systems such as MARC, RDA, and AACR2.
- Create and maintain bibliographic records in the Integrated Library System (ILS).
- Assign appropriate subject headings and classification numbers using LCSH and DDC.
- Maintain authority records and ensure consistency in cataloging.
- Assist with review and update catalog records for accuracy and adherence to standards.
- Work closely with the acquisitions section for accurate cataloging of new materials.
- Provide technical support for cataloging processes and assist library staff and patrons with catalog-related inquiries.
- Stay updated with advancements in cataloging standards and best practices.
- Participate in special cataloging projects such as retrospective conversion or reclassification initiatives.
- Assist with inventory control and ensure cataloged materials are correctly labelled and shelved.
- Assist in cataloging for branch libraries
- Collaborate with other library sections to support overall library operations.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Chief cataloguer
- Perform weekend and night shift duties.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- A Postgraduate Degree/Degree in Library and Information Science.
- 3-5 years of professional experience in a library setting, focusing in cataloging and classification.
- Proficiency in using cataloging tools and standards such as MARC, RDA, and AACR2.
- Experience using Integrated Library Systems (ILS), preferably Koha and have knowledge of Z39.50 protocol.
- Knowledge of original cataloging and digital resources, integrating them into the library system.
- Experience in generating reports on cataloging activities and documenting cataloging processes.

Conditions of Service
Assistant Librarian I/II PGK35,751 - PGK49,843 per annum
(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
