About the role

Joining our APD team, you will work alongside a team of APD officers to ensure the safety of our growing gold site in the Eastern Highlands.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the efficient and cost-effective management of the department within the established policy and in accordance with the authority delegated by the Supervisor, Asset protection.
  • Have fair understanding on voluntary principles on security and human rights and anti-fraud policy.
  • Inspect and adjust security systems, equipment, and machinery to ensure operational use and to detect evidence of tampering.
  • Drive and guard vehicle to transport money and valuables to prevent theft and ensure safe delivery.
  • May possibly require working extended hours and sometimes being involved in circumstances that can be unsafe, because of the core duties associated with which is often to look after valuable possessions and persons.
  • Conducting random breathalyzer test to company employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • To inspect and conduct searches to avoid employees and stakeholders from entering company premises with alcohol, illegal drugs and weapons or departing with company assets.
  • Be involved in the clearance of terminated employees to ensure smooth exit process.
  • Where required, liaise with Community Relations on law-and-order issues concerning impact local communities and surroundings.
  • Ensure the effectiveness of emergency fire and rescue response by regular training to enhance the capability of the teams.
  • Arresting of illegal miners
  • Ensure the safety rules and other policies of the camp and mine site are observed and report any suspicious activities.
  • Attend to other security administrative duties in line with role and as instructed by immediate Supervisor.
  • Maintain safety work standards in accordance with government regulations and company policy.
  • Perform all roles and responsibilities that support and reflect the company’s mission and core values.

About You

To be considered for this role, you must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a trained and competent security officer as well as

  • Have at least 3 years or more in a mining environment but must have worked previously as police, correctional services, or military personnel or similar with no criminal record.
  • Possess training equivalent to Police/Correctional or Military.
  • PNG Drivers Licence
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills.
  • Can be able to manage the safety and/or security and asset protection department.
  • Physically fit and healthy.
  • Site security experience in the extractive industries (Mining, Oil & Gas)
  • Possess strong influencing and negotiation skills and the ability to develop and maintain constructive relationships with management, team members, peers, police, and other external agencies
  • Demonstrate strong conceptual skills, and capable of developing lateral and practical solutions
  • Organize and interpret field data and identify necessary corrections
  • Prepare clear, concise, and accurate investigative and narrative reports
