About the role

Reporting to the Manager - Environment, the incumbent is responsible for assessing and managing water resources, addressing challenges related to water availability, quality, and sustainable use.

Key / Major Accountabilities

Key accountabilities of this position include.

  • Provide high level technical advice on hydrology, catchment processes, and surface water modelling to ensure best practice for surface water use that complies with regulatory requirements.
  • Estimate concentrations of contaminants in downstream water bodies due to the project expansions.
  • Describe mitigation measures to avoid, reduce or mitigate impacts to water quality
  • Outline a suitable ongoing surface water monitoring program with remote data logging instruments.
  • Research the distribution and properties of underground and surface water.
  • Develop strategies to maintain and improve water quality and availability.
  • Compile weekly, monthly and annual reports on water quality to report to PNG environment regulator (CEPA).

About You

To be considered for this position, candidates must have a minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience, preferably in the extractive industry, and be able to offer expert advice on obtaining, sustainable use and management of water resource. In addition to this, you will have some or all the following.

  • Degree or equivalent tertiary qualifications in Geology, Environmental Science, Earth Science, Geography, or closely related disciplines.
  • Strong operational background with demonstrated ability to bring projects to completion on time and on budget.
  • Initiative-taking with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite.
