The Papua New Guinea University of Technology is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to join our Matheson Library team as the Acquisitions Librarian.

Acquisitions Librarian
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced librarian to play a key role in the procurement of the library’s resources, ensuring they meet the academic and research needs of the University.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage all routine activities in the Acquisitions unit.
- Acquire relevant resources to support the university’s curriculum.
- Process book order requests from faculty and staff.
- Monitor open orders and communicate with faculty, staff, and external vendors.
- Evaluate and process donated materials for suitability.
- Facilitate gift and exchange programs between universities and educational institutions.
- Resolve acquisition and processing issues, including payment discrepancies.
- Identify sources for out-of-print materials.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor bids, renew vendor contracts annually.
- Lead the Library Selectors team to maintain a current and relevant collection.
- Compile reports and statistics on acquisitions.
- Maintain and update policies and procedures for the Acquisitions section.
- Provide research assistance to the public and academic community.
- Train and induct new staff.
- Contribute to discussions on library development as a senior team member.
- Participate in shift duties, including evenings and weekends.
- Perform other related duties as required by the Technical Services Librarian.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Librarianship.
- A minimum of three years of experience in academic or research libraries.
- Proficiency in Integrated Library Systems (ILS), preferably Koha ILS.
- Knowledge of collection development principles, vendor negotiations, licensing agreements, and digital acquisitions.
- Familiarity with Web 2.0 tools.
- Strong budget management skills and an understanding of the international book trade.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Conditions of Service
Librarian PGK46,556 - PGK56,902 per annum
Domestic Market Allowance PGK6,677 - PGK10,683 per annum
(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
