Islands Petroleum (IP) is an independently owned fuel and lubes distributor, and the exclusive distributor for Mobil lubricants in Papua New Guinea. With the head office based in Kokopo, Islands Petroleum also operates bulk fuel depots in Rabaul, Kimbe, Konebada, Kavieng, Alotau, Popondetta/Oro Bay and Mt. Hagen as well as lubes and fuel distribution warehouses in Lae, Port Moresby, and Madang.

We're looking for a Network and Field IT Officer who’s more than just tech-savvy – we want someone energetic, proactive, and dependable, who thrives in the field, solves problems on the spot, and gets things done without needing to be asked twice.

The Role & Responsibilities

Reporting to the IT Manager, this role ensures our network infrastructure, on prem and cloud systems, and IT support across sites are efficient, secure, and future-ready. This role is ideal for a well-rounded IT professional with strong networking skills and a passion for hands-on field support.

Other key responsibilities include:

• Maintain and support secure, stable, and scalable network infrastructure across all IP locations.
• Perform hands-on field IT tasks including hardware setups, diagnostics, repairs, and structured cabling.
• Configure and manage network hardware (switches, routers, access points) and end-user devices.
• Support modern network solutions including SD-WAN, VPN, and remote connectivity for secure multi-site operations.
• Monitor and optimize network performance, bandwidth usage, and traffic prioritization.
• Provide user support for Microsoft Office 365 tools (Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive).
• Manage and support virtualization platforms (Hyper-V, VMware) and local server infrastructure.
• Implement and maintain reliable backup, recovery, and security protocols.
• Document network layouts, procedures, and infrastructure changes.
• Collaborate with the IT team on rollouts, upgrades, and digital transformation projects.
• Stay current with emerging network technologies and cyber-security best practices.

Candidate Requirements

The person we seek must have the following:

• Tertiary qualification in Information Technology or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in IT support and enterprise networking, with solid field deployment capability.
• Proficiency with SD-WAN, VPNs, routing protocols, and secure multi-site networking.
• Hands-on experience with Office 365 administration and virtualization (Hyper-V, VMware).
• Strong hardware support, cabling, and diagnostic skills.
• Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or Microsoft are a strong plus.
• A self-starter with integrity, discipline, and a solutions-focused mindset.
• Excellent time management and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel and support remote sites when required, including after-hours.
