POSITION: Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (LAME)

DEPARTMENT: SIL Aviation Department

RESPONSIBLE TO: Shop Supervisor and Maintenance Manager

PURPOSE: To carry out all the maintenance functions at SIL Aviation


  • Assist the Shop Supervisor and/or Maintenance Coordinator specifically in the area of aircraft maintenance.
  • Carry out and return to service regular line maintenance on aircraft.
  • Carry out the overhaul and return to service of aircraft components or parts where appropriate.
  • Assist in giving appropriate training on aircraft as coordinated with the Engineer Training and Competency Coordinator.
  • Assist the Shop Supervisor and Maintenance Coordinator in maintaining adequate spare parts levels.
  • Carry out maintenance away from the main centre as necessary.
  • Maintain adequate and accurate records of components and maintenance performed.
  • Review Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives, advise the Maintenance Manager on applicability and perform applicable directives.
  • Certify on maintenance forms for work done for which a rating is held.
  • Make structural repairs within the scope of the shop's certificate of approval.
  • Give service to commercial customers and help maintain cordial relationships.
  • Pursue further licensing as agreed upon with the Maintenance Manager.
  • Maintain a log or Practical Training Record (PTR) of work performed, observed and training received as necessary.
  • Ensure that recent experience requirements are met for any licenses held. This includes both CAR and ISJAO requirements.
  • Be on call to work on after-hours maintenance issues.

Qualifications & Personal Qualities

  • Ability to meet requirements of JAARS AMT1, AMT2, classification
  • Hold at least one applicable PNG Maintenance Engineer license.
  • Understanding of and commitment to SIL goals
  • Able to communicate end results and expectations.
  • Is honest, reliable, and punctual, with an ability to relate well with others.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Safety conscious and careful worker.
